We are profoundly saddened to share the passing of a cherished friend, J. Landis “Lanny” Martin, earlier this month. He was a beloved long-time supporter of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum along with his wife Sharon. Their philanthropy changed many lives and helped the Museum and many other organizations to thrive. Sadly, Lanny passed away after a long illness, but his charitable works and kindness are far from forgotten. In addition to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum being blessed by his generosity, he ensured the success of many arts groups nationwide, including the Central City Opera and the Denver Art Museum in Colorado.
Lanny’s generosity truly knew no bounds, and he displayed it through his many philanthropic acts which began at the DCWM over two decades ago, supporting a variety of programs including Cowgirl Up!, art exhibitions, Heart of the West, the annual fund, matching grants programs, and the Executive Director fund. His advice and support immeasurably helped the Museum develop educational programs and exhibitions to serve Wickenburg and the surrounding rural communities.
The loss of such a wonderful person as Lanny greatly saddens all of us, but his kind works have forever left a legacy of generosity and the importance of supporting our communities. May he rest in the peace he so greatly deserves. If you would like to honor Lanny and Sharon Martin, the Family recommends donations be given to the charity of your choice.
