The Soul of Native America

October 18, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Our adjunct curator of history, Dr. Eduardo Pagán returns to the CCLC with a lecture titled, “The Soul of Native America” on October 18 at 11 a.m. This October 9, we mark “National Indigenous People’s Day” and November celebrates “National Native American Heritage Month”. “The Soul of Native America” will be an in-depth presentation on our Native American past and how it helped to shape our present. This presentation will take a broad overview in exploring the different ways that European colonization and conversion efforts impacted native communities. Some accepted the different ways of the newcomers, with their new ideas about the heavens, salvation, and worship. Others became more resistant, doubled down on traditional beliefs and practices, and sought to eradicate the new religions. Still more sought to find a syncretistic middle ground between the old and the new, and in the process produced a newer way of walking through life.

Included with paid museum admission, free for members and kids 17 and under.
