Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West Invitational Exhibition & Sale
The Desert Caballeros Western Museum (DCWM) is proud to present the 19th annual “Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West” exhibition and sale, a tribute to the remarkable contributions by more than 60 of today’s best women artists to the Western genre. Opening on March 22 and running through September 1, 2024, this exhibition offers a unique perspective on the West, highlighting the often-underrepresented narratives of women in Western art.
This year’s 65 artists represent a diverse gathering of returning talent like Rachel Brownlee from Nebraska and new faces such as Dolores Purdy, a member of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma. More than 250 individual pieces including paintings, drawings and sculpture will be on display in five galleries of the Museum.
Opening Weekend
The exhibition and sale begins with a public preview on Friday, March 22, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ticketed events will continue until 10 p.m. Saturday with the main sale silent auction from 4-5:30 p.m. and miniatures sale silent auction from 5:30-7 p.m with grazin’ and DJ dancin’ in the tent. The opening weekend concludes with the “Quick Draw,” breakfast, and live auction from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 24.
Most miniatures may be collected after noon on Sunday, March 24 and full-size works will be available for pick-up or delivery after September 3. Proceeds from the sale benefit both the artists and the Museum’s continued efforts to highlight the depth and scope of the Western experience.
